The elimination diet proved to be a pivotal step in unraveling the mystery behind my persistent struggle with acne. Despite dedicating years to an array of skincare products, various procedures, and dermatological treatments, my quest for clear skin remained elusive. Frustrated by the continued presence of acne, I began to recognize that the key to understanding my skin woes lied within what I was putting into my body. The realization that an internal factor might be at play prompted me to explore the transformative potential of an elimination diet. At this point I asked myself, what else do I have to lose?
[You] Questions:
You ever ate something, and it did not agree with you then you tried it again and still did not agree with you?
You ever looked at some foods and got a weird feeling from simply looking at it?
You have always been a “picky” eater but tried to expand your palate horizons and still just couldn’t accept some foods?
You have struggled with acne or various skin issues and have tried EVERYTHING…. Literally everything possible to combat the issue, but nothing worked?
You ate something and you noticed your mood almost instantly changed (and not in a good way)?
You ever just totally hated a food but still found yourself eating it? (There's a reason for this!)
You ever struggled with weight, and barely eat? (I know my blog is based on skin, but I felt the need to mention this)
Depending on your answers to some of these questions, the elimination diet may be perfect for you!
The Benefits:
The elimination diet does take a level of discipline especially when you’re used to eating whatever and whenever you want. But I promise it is so worth it!
Here’s a list of reasons why the elimination diet is beneficial-not just to your skin but your overall health;
1. Identifies Triggers: helps pinpoint specific foods that may trigger acne/skin problems
2. Food Sensitives: helps to identify and manage food sensitivities that one may have
3. Inflammation Reduction: eliminating certain foods that contribute to systemic inflammation can reduce acne/skin issues
4. Gut Health: improves gut health which certain foods may disrupt the balance of gut bacteria, influencing skin health
5. Hormonal Balance: dietary choices can have an effect on one’s hormonal balance, which plays a role in the development of acne
6. Nutrient Deficiencies: certain foods can interfere with nutrient absorption thus impacting overall skin health
7. Overall Wellness: encourages a focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods which can help maintain healthy skin and combat acne
